The Buddha?s Guardian with the Golden Pestle

The Buddha?s Guardian with the Golden Pestle

In martial arts, the baton is considered the ?mother of all weapons (mu-ping).? In the classical system of the Five Energy Movements, it is associated with the Earth element. It is a basic weapon as well as a tool used to work out the body. The baton?s particularity is that it does not have a specific place for the hands; it can be held at various points according to the intended function and use. However, it has certain ?balance points? to facilitate its mobility or stability and to permit it to be used with a maximum of force and precision. In the baton practice (KUN), the participants learn to master it and to direct its energy, to perform precise gestures, to anchor it and to be present.
